President’s Press

Hello All, Well, the new season is fast approaching, and we begin our club practices and trials on Sunday, 20th August. Brett has been busy and has arranged a mix of matches on pennant days and practices on Sunday with some new speakers. The Sunday sessions will be followed by a sausage sizzle. The trials sheets will be up on the board this weekend so please complete.During the close season we have seen several new players join the club and some returning, I welcome you all and hope you enjoy the season at the club. The arrival of Kiwi International Seamus Curtin is a fantastic signing for the club and the ladies’ team will be looking forward to his coaching. The pennant season will start in Mid-October, but we have 4 weeks learn to bowl course starting on 12th September and this will lead into night owlsstarting on 11th October, any volunteers to help will be most welcome and especially with bar work for the RSL. Full training will be given. The committee has been working hard, and Shaun has done an excellent job taking on the Secretary role. After the feedback from last season, he is preparing a newsletter that will be circulated regularly and so increase communication. SA Bowls are advertising coaching and umpiring courses so please book them, the club will pay, and Brett will assist with your development. We have been working closely with the RSL and as some members and certainly all board members know since the clubs joined, we have a profit-sharing agreement with the RSL. This means that neither the BBC nor RSL can spend more than $2000 without the consent of the other. We have approved the expenditure on replacing or repairing the bar coolers, ice machine, dishwasher etc., in the past few months as they have approved our spending on the coach and office air conditioner unit. The board have also been working with and gaining new sponsors and we welcome Purple Pixel for audio visual work, South Australia Painting services, and CFS, who are providing our new kit. The RSL have also secured significant funding from West End. This has led to a substantial increase in our sponsorship income. The committee have reviewed our current financial state and assets. They have decided that to improve the look of our teams to provide each paid up member a free pair of shorts, Skort or trousers. This project will be led by Wal T who will distribute a uniform slip to all club membership and collate their uniform requests so we can get it all in one order. The lead-in time is 4-6 weeks for the club uniform to arrive so be sure you get your order, but your subs must be paid to benefit.
