PRESIDENT’S PRESS – NOV 2023

Dear Members,

Well, the season is underway, with our teams performing well across all the pennant days. The top teams on Wednesday and Saturday sit top of their divisions, with many others in the top four. The ladies’ premier team are currently 5th, so well done to all. The training meeting was well attended on Friday, even in the heat, and it was great to see and hear all the positive comments. Thanks to Anthony for sharing his routine and learning. Brett mentioned that Anthony and Seamus will establish the Academy soon, with the backing of the Board.

Training on Friday night has been well attended, and Beau’s kitchen has been providing excellent meals, which have been well received. The club makes money once 40 meals are reached. Please come with friends and family and enjoy the food and the championship games.

Beau also provides meals on Wednesday, but this needs more support, or it won’t be sustainable.

Night Owls has seen significant growth again, with a club-record number of teams playing over the two nights. We have 30 teams registered on Wednesday and 23 on Thursday. If anyone wants to help and volunteer weekly or fortnightly, please let me know. Look at the new decals on the water tanks on Keelara Street!

The Holdfast Council has accepted our locker and bathroom project, and we have additional work to complete the bid. The RSL are also participating and looking to part-fund the works. Once we know what the council agrees on, we will produce a concept plan for members’ comments.

The uniforms have now arrived and will be distributed shortly, with all who ordered receiving free shorts or trousers. CFS and SAPS have financed the uniform, so please support their business.

The super challenge started last night with Brighton hosting and saw some great games. BBC won their match against Morphett Vale. The next match is on 3rd December. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make it a success.

As most know, I am part of the Crippled Crows Rugby fraternity, which plays during the winter. The Crows have now made the BBC their home and will have functions at the club. They have started to put some memorabilia up and financially donated to the RSL veterans.

I would like to personally thank all the members for their kind words of condolences for Liz, who recently lost her brother unexpectedly after a hospital operation.

Yours,

Kevin Rowley

President
