What a week—

Jo and Dave Edwards came to Brighton and what fantastic people, such a lovely humble and knowledge couple. As the mail on Sunday reported yesterday, we had bowling royalty in our midst.

They arrived Tuesday evening and stayed with the Hammond’s and Brett provided a car for them to use. I had the pleasure of having dinner with them and listening to Jo talk about her bowls journey from soccer to cricket to bowls, and how she was born on the Wirral England not too far from Manchester and winning her first gold medal there in 2002 at Heaton Park next to my old Grammar school. We also learned why Dave is better known as scruff!

On Wednesday they delivered an informative training session for the ladies and then they had the afternoon off but turned up at Blackwood to support the team and then later at NightOwls. Jo even went out and measured for a team! They stayed for pizza and enjoyed the atmosphere

On Thursday Jo led the ladies against top of the table Ascot Park to a 24 shot win and a 40 plus shot turn around since the early season fixture. This lifts the ladies to 5th in the Prem and pushing for finals.

On Friday Dave and Jo delivered a coaching session at the club. We had over 85 people attending to see them talk about what works and what drills to practice and then the mental side of the game. We had visitors from Glenelg, Ascot Park, Morphett Vale, Hawthorn, Reynella, Christie’s Beach, Holdfast, Lockleys, Marion, Port Noarlunga, Blackwood Happy Valley, Clarence Gardens, Edwardstown and Two Wells.

Jo then played for our top team  in a top of the table clash against Edwardstown which was watched by a large crowd of over 100 people. Sadly we could only win one rink but the team enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. The team still remain top of the table

Beaus kitchen had its busiest night with over 90 meals sold and the bar was very busy until the early hours. Thanks to George for his time behind the bar and to John Murray and Keith Moorman for running the sausage sizzle and to all the others who chipped in to help.

It has been the boards intention to showcase our club and make us a destination club and this week has gone a long way to achieve that both in the bowling and local communities.
