President’s Press

The season end is nearing, and I hope you had a good season.  However, I do ask that you look to support our top Wednesday and Saturday teams, both of whom are in the grand final.

This Saturday, March 23rd, we will play the Div 3 Grand Final against Edwardstown at Ascot Park from 1 p.m., and it would be fantastic to have as much support as possible.

Division 3 is extremely hard to get out of, as unlike most divisions, only the grand final winner is promoted.

Congratulations to our other teams, who made the finals but sadly didn’t progress: Ladies Premier, Men’s Div 3, Saturday Div 4, and 7. We also sit on top of the Super Challenge Competition, which runs on a Sunday evening and has a mix of players from across the divisions participating.

It was great to watch several of the teams play at the weekend, to see the effort of all, and to see them all wearing the new kit with pride. Thanks to the coaches Brett, Seamus and Anthony, who have worked hard running many sessions this year.

The Adelaide Cup tournament was a great success on a scorching day. Many people made it a great success, with teams from all over the state travelling far and wide. The overall winner was World U25 Champion Nathan Black and his team.

This following on from the success of Jo and Edwards visit has undoubtedly kept the club profile high.

Rob Leonard and his Bunnings team were in action last Sunday at the sausage sizzle, which made over $1300 profit.

As we near the season’s end and look towards the AGM in May, I reflect on what we have achieved not just on the greens but also off it.

A couple of highlights

  • Over 40 new members joining us this season, this has seen an enormous increase in bar takings and profitability for not only BBC but the RSL
  • Major new sponsors with SAPS and Jarvis Toyota joining along with Reilly’s wines, increasing our revenue significantly.
  • A significant increase in Night Owls teams, especially on Thursday nights, with Wednesday hitting 30 teams.
  • Various social events include Xmas party, Volunteers thank you and Quiz night.

I hope that you can find time to support the club this weekend, but if you can’t, I wish you a great season. Remember we have social bowls on Tuesday and Friday, though numbers will be limited as B Green will close next week for extensive work over the autumn.

Thank you.
